Daisies

Today I found an exquisite Czech film: Sedmikrásky (Daisies). Directed by Vera Chytilová in 1966, it is considered a milestone of the Nova Vlana movement (la Nouvelle Vague tchèque) and the modern surrealist cinema.

Innovatively filmed, and released a couple of years before the Prague Spring, "Daisies" was considered as "depicting the wanton" by the Czech authorities and then banned, although it had been made with the support of the state-sponsored film studio. Moreover, Chytilová was forbidden to work in his homeland until 1975.

However, "Daisies" is not only wonderful because of its original filmstyle (disruptive formal cinematographic strategies) but also for showing a beautiful fashionable universe: sixties dresses, flower-crowns, Bardot chignon (bun), smoked eyes, fifties swimsuits, ... A source of inspiration!

"The form of the film was really derived from the conceptual basis of the film. Because the concept of the film was destruction, the form became destructive as well ", Chytilová.
